Working together to create sustainable food for the community of Uganda, volunteers from the environmental management course at Makerere university, partner with primary aged children to give these kids lunch. It is not hard to inspire the children to be involved, they know that through this work they will grow food for themseleves, and end those hunger pains. One time when I was in Uganda I asked the teacher for only a few volunteers, I selected about 5 students to come and assist in building a nursery. Before long the entire grades 6 and 7 were out helping, The teachers explained that the children really wanted to come out and help, to be a part of creating a future without hunger. They wanted to help so much- the teachers found it no use trying to stop them!!! it was an absolute pleasure :)
Theresa that is so encouraging, and inspiring! It's good to know that they really want the change, and that it is not being forced on them. This way they can take leadership, and is a great form of empowerment!
